At his current value, Miami Dolphins running back Matt Breida is a must-target in fantasy football drafts.

Fantasy football leagues are almost never won with picks made in the first round. League winning selections come in the form of middle-to-late round selections who overperform and become top-tier players at their position. If you can find a late-round running back or wide receiver who has a breakout season and puts up top 10 production at his position, you are going to be in good shape to compete during your fantasy football season.

We are always looking for these later-round value picks who could potentially become a league-winner. This year, I have a close eye on Miami Dolphins running back Matt Breida as one of these potential draft-day gems.

Breida was one of two major additions that the Dolphins made at the running back position this offseason. Miami sent a fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers to bring in Breida and also signed Jordan Howard to a two-year free-agent contract. The Dolphins are likely planning on using Howard and Breida as a backfield duo this season, as their skills compliment each other well. Howard is more of a power player while Breida is one of the most explosive backs in the NFL.

While neither player will have an easy path to a full load of carries, I just see Breida as the better player. He is one of the fastest players in the NFL and does a fantastic job of finding holes in the defense. He is quick to his spot, explosive through the hole and nearly impossible to catch in the open field. If anybody is going to break out and become a big-time fantasy football asset for the Dolphins in 2020, I am putting my money on Breida, the clearly more talented player.

According to Average Draft Position (ADP) data from Fantasy Football Calculator, Breida is on average the 98th player taken in full PPR drafts. This puts him as a late eight-round selection, a full round after Howard is going. Howard is likely to get most of the goal line work and will get plenty of overall opportunities, but his overall upside is limited. If you are looking for a legitimate potential league winner, Brieda should be your guy.

In 2020, the Miami Dolphins are going to be looking for players who can help them in the long-term. With all due respect to Howard, he simply does not have the long-term upside and raw ability of Breida. If the Dolphins can find a legitimate lead back this season, they will not need to use valuable draft capital to address the position. Breida is the only guy on the roster who has that kind of ability.

Are you looking for a running back with extreme upside later in your fantasy football draft? Take a shot on Matt Breida.
