Sleeper Tight End – Devin Asiasi, New England Patriots

Any tight end in the Bill Belichick system has an opportunity to be a fantasy football sleeper and Devin Asiasi is no exception. After a rather disappointing season from Matt LaCosse, Asiasi will have a big chance to become the number one tight end in the Patriots’ offense.

One of the concerns before was the player throwing the ball, but with Cam Newton signing in New England, that idea can now be pushed to the side. And with Newton now under center, that is only another good sign for Asiasi. In Carolina, Newton frequently targeted Greg Olsen, sometimes more than the wide receivers, which could mean that he turns to Asiasi this coming season.

With Newton on a one-year contract, Asiasi might not have a lot of value in a dynasty or keeper league just yet, but he is worth a late-round pick to stash in case he turns into something this season and the Patriots bring Newton back in a year.

As for redraft leagues, it’s a similar story, but he might be more of a mid-season waiver claim if he starts to catch fire. It could be wise to grab him before then to ensure you get him if he does catch on and fill the role left behind by Rob Gronkowski.
