Best Available Tight End – Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears

The reality is, this year has few rookie tight ends that will have an impact on the field, but of those selected, Cole Kmet has the best opportunity. During his rookie season, Mitchell Trubisky relied heavily on the tight end position, mainly targeting Zach Miller before his gruesome injury.

After a rough patch with Trey Burton being underwhelming at the position, Trubisky might once again return to the tight end position as a sense of reliance.

Jimmy Graham is on the Bears’ roster as well, but he might be well past his prime based on the last few seasons. Kmet has more potential for down the road and Matt Nagy might try and tap into that early on.

Even if Trubisky isn’t the starter and the Bears turn to Nick Foles, Foles has a good history of targeting the tight end position as well. In Philadelphia, Foles not only played a big role in Burton’s contract with the Bears but also turned to Zach Ertz plenty of times as well.

Essentially, regardless of who is under center, Kmet has an opportunity to be a part, maybe even a big part, of the Bears’ offense, which is more than most of the tight end class from the 2020 NFL Draft will be able to say.
