3. Nate Stanley, QB, Iowa

It’s rare for seventh-round quarterbacks to amount to much in the NFL, but if Nate Stanley can reign in his arm and be more consistent, he has starter qualities otherwise.

A tremendous leader on the Iowa football program, Stanley was a starter for the past three seasons with the Hawkeyes, throwing 68 touchdown passes compared to 23 interceptions.

Stanley ran a pro-style offense under the Ferentz family at Iowa, showing an ability to make tough throws from the pocket, off play-action, and on the move.

He’s not the most athletic, but Stanley has a rifle of an arm and has a secret skill that could come into play his rookie season — he’s one of the best quarterbacks in recent college memory at the quarterback sneak.

Stanley averaged around five yards per carry on quarterback sneak plays and got a first down on 23 of 24 attempts.

Maybe the Vikings will throw him in the game when they get close to the goal line.

Stanley could also allow the Vikings to move on from Sean Mannion and give the team a backup with some upside behind Kirk Cousins.
