2021 NFL Draft: Justin Fields tops Trevor Lawrence in QB-rich mock draft
4. Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
This is a really high projection for Trey Lance, but the Panthers might be the ideal fit for him.
The Panthers brought in Matt Rhule to come in and rebuild their program, and this Panthers offense has plenty of weapons for a guy like Lance to get the ball to quickly and get acclimated to the NFL with some read-option plays, quick throws, and designed quarterback runs.
Last season for the Bison, Lance threw for nearly 2,800 yards and rushed for 1,100. He had 28 passing touchdowns and 14 rushing touchdowns with zero interceptions.
He was also only sacked 12 times.
This is a guy who already understands how to take care of the football and maximize the strengths of everyone around him, operating within the offense and making plays but being smart.
We’ll see what kind of improvements he makes this season, but he has tremendous talent from the sudden QB pipeline coming out of North Dakota State.
