1. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
I am not convinced the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to have the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
ESPN says the Jaguars have the worst roster in the NFL right now, but I’m not so sure that’s true. The Jaguars have one of the youngest rosters in the NFL, certainly. They are unproven in many areas, certainly.
They also have a lot of prospects who came into the NFL with substantial injury concerns.
With that said, the Jaguars are talented and if everything works out for them this year, they could be pretty tough.
Gardner Minshew made the Jags a tough out last year as it is.
He played 14 games and started 12, and in those starts, the Jaguars went 6-6. He completed over 60 percent of his passes with 21 touchdowns and six interceptions.
By comparison, last year’s top pick Kyler Murray started all 16 games and completed over 64 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, leading the Cardinals to a 5-10-1 record.
It’s not like the Jaguars had an astronomically better roster than the Cardinals, either.
Having said all of that, if the Jaguars end up with the number one overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, they will probably have to take a quarterback.
What if Justin Fields overtakes Trevor Lawrence as the consensus number one player at the position, or even just for a team like the Jaguars in general?
Fields has the arm, the size, the athleticism, and the production to be a top overall pick in the NFL Draft. It could end up being next year when everyone is expecting Lawrence.
