2021 NFL Draft: Justin Fields tops Trevor Lawrence in QB-rich mock draft.

The 2021 NFL Draft could be a time to expect the unexpected.

At this point one year ago, the 2020 NFL Draft was all about Tua Tagovailoa and which team was going to tank for him. Then, out of nowhere, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow set college football ablaze with one of the best individual seasons we have ever seen from a college quarterback.

This year, the 2021 NFL Draft is all about Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and which team will tank for him, but what if he gets out-performed this season? Will teams ignore recency bias and take Lawrence based on his entire body of work, or can someone like Justin Fields of Ohio State build on his tremendous sophomore season and take the lead for the top prospect in college football?

Anything is possible.

So much can happen between now and the end of January that it’s really impossible to know what a consensus big board for the 2021 NFL Draft will look like, which is why I decided to use this mock draft as a place to do some projecting.

Some of these picks will be based on the current consensus, while others will be based on projected leaps by other prospects throughout the 2020 season.

Instead of creating my own order as I did in my previous first-round mock draft (with the Patriots getting the top pick) for the 2021 NFL Draft, I used The Draft Network’s simulator order this time around.

Here is how the first round turned out.
