2020 NFL Draft Picks

  • 1. Ross Blacklock, DL, TCU
  • 2. Jonathan Greenard, EDGE, Florida
  • 3. Charlie Heck, OT, North Carolina
  • 4. John Reid, CB, Penn State
  • 5. Isaiah Coulter, WR, Rhode Island

Top pick: Ross Blacklock, DL, TCU

The Texans had a lot of holes to fill this offseason, but one of the most underrated losses was the loss of DJ Reader who signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Although Ross Blacklock may not be able to replace Reader all on his own as a rookie, this was a nice value for the Texans, who didn’t have a first-round pick. Injuries limited him to just two seasons at TCU but Blacklock’s talent is obvious and he is going to be able to boost Houston’s interior pass rush right away.

Steal: EDGE Jonathan Greenard, Florida – 3rd round

There aren’t many options to pick from in this category for the Texans having just five selections overall, but Jonathan Greenard in the third round is a nice steal.

This year’s class was not known for its group of edge defenders or pass rushers, but Greenard is a player who can give you a little bit of everything off the edge.

Even as a third-round pick, I think he has a good chance to start as a rookie in Houston and give them a much-needed boost in the pass rush department.

Overall Grade: C-

The Texans acquired an additional second-round pick in this draft through the DeAndre Hopkins trade. They sent a second-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams for wide receiver Brandin Cooks, which doesn’t exactly ease the pain of trading one of your franchise cornerstone pieces.

The Texans will rely on Blacklock and Greenard to play significant roles as rookies in 2020, but not having a first-round pick could be detrimental for this team.

Charlie Heck is an NFL legacy who started a lot of games over the past few years at North Carolina and could certainly factor into the Texans’ future plans at left tackle.

John Reid could develop into a top nickel corner for Houston in short order. He had seven interceptions and 26 pass breakups over four years at Penn State.

Isaiah Coulter was a worthwhile late-round selection for Houston with speed, athleticism, and a lot of upside with a big catch radius.
