AFC West. Kansas City Chiefs. . player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 1st place. 124

2020 NFL Draft Picks

  • 1. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, LSU
  • 2. Willie Gay Jr., LB, Mississippi State
  • 3. Lucas Niang, OT, TCU
  • 4. L’Jarius Snead, DB, Louisiana Tech
  • 5. Michael Danna, DE, Michigan
  • 6. Thakarius Keyes, CB, Tulane

Top pick: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, LSU

Thinking about this pick prior to the 2020 NFL Draft, it was clear the Chiefs could afford the luxury of a first-round running back, and I love the fit.

Kareem Hunt was a huge asset for this team but obviously that didn’t end well, and the Chiefs have been making due since they cut him.

Edwards-Helaire is not the ‘same’ as Hunt, but he certainly has the ability to break tackles and catch passes, and I think he’s going to be a huge asset to the Chiefs in his rookie season.

Steal: OT Lucas Niang, TCU

As a right tackle prospect, Niang looked like a rookie starter coming out of TCU.

Perhaps the NFL disagreed with that, but I think the Chiefs got themselves a player they can develop into a long-term option whether they keep him at tackle or move him to the interior offensive line.

Overall Grade: C

I like the pick of Edwards-Helaire up top, but after that, I have some questions.

Willie Gay Jr. is a heck of an athlete, but what about the off-field concerns? Was there enough of a body of work here to take him in the second round?

Niang was a nice value but where does he fit in with this team? Why did they not prioritize their defensive backfield sooner?

The Chiefs deserve the benefit of the doubt coming off of a Super Bowl victory, but this draft class was hit or miss for me.
