Top pick: CJ Henderson, CB, Florida
The Jaguars had to replace both Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye in this draft class, and they did so to begin with by adding CJ Henderson.
Henderson was one of the best man cover corners in this draft, especially on his 2018 tape where he was downright dominant at times. Even in an injury-limited 2019 season, Henderson put some of his best tape out there going up against Ja’Marr Chase of LSU.
He could struggle like any rookie does but he has the makeup of a star.
Steal: WR Laviska Shenault, Colorado – 2nd round
Laviska Shenault was predicted to be a top 15 pick at this time last year, but injuries and a really stacked injury history in general contributed to his fall to the second round.
He is a tremendous talent and pairing him up with DJ Chark and Dede Westbrook, he can really be ‘himself’ in the Jacksonville offense. This kid is a playmaker no matter where he lines up.
Overall Grade: B+
I really like this draft for the Jaguars.
Not only did they get CJ Henderson in the first round, but they also got K’Lavon Chaisson in round one. He can rush the passer, cover, play the run, and do anything you ask of him. He’s also a great leader for your locker room.
Davon Hamilton is going to be a starter for this team before too long on the interior defensive line and is coming off of a tremendous year at Ohio State.
I think Jacksonville had one of the more interesting crops of day three selections in this draft, starting with Josiah Scott of Michigan State who has ideal nickel corner traits in the NFL.
Collin Johnson is a big-bodied receiver who could develop into a starter down the line.
There were plenty of people who felt like Ben Bartch, a converted small school tight end, could be a top sleeper at the offensive tackle position.
The only reason this grade is not an “A” for the Jaguars is the fact that their top three picks are all significant injury risks at this point.
