San Francisco 49ers: Javon Kinlaw, DL, South Carolina

Round 1, 14th Overall

The San Francisco 49ers had a limited amount of picks in the 2020 NFL Draft but had the opportunity to make things count with two first-round selections, one from the Colts in the DeForest Buckner trade.

The Niners did move up from 31 to 25 in order to select wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who should flourish in an offense designed to maximize the run after catch ability of its receivers. Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel should be an excellent duo going forward.

But before that, the 49ers moved back one spot with the Buccaneers and selected defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw. Kinlaw didn’t fill up the stat sheet as much as expected at South Carolina but was great at attacking gaps and creating pressure from the interior. He has a wicked quick first step, plays with a non-stop motor, and shows great leverage and hand placement to get linemen off-balance.

Kinlaw should end up starting on the interior in 2020 and should get a lot of opportunities to wreak havoc, especially with Arik Armstead, Dee Ford, and Nick Bosa as teammates.
