Los Angeles Rams: Terrell Burgess, S, Utah

Round 3, 104th Overall

This was a tough call for the best Los Angeles Rams pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. They selected running back Cam Akers in the second round, who produced despite a horrid offensive line at Florida State.

Akers could be the zone scheme running back who replaces Todd Gurley’s production from the jump, as securing the starting spot shouldn’t be a difficult task. Wide receiver Van Jefferson is another great route runner who could help out an offense that just lost Brandin Cooks.

However, addressing the defensive side of the ball was important for this Rams team. While it may not seem like Terrell Burgess was a selection based on need, there is so much he can do for the secondary. Burgess was a versatile piece on the Utah defense in 2019. He had reps in the box, in the slot, and on the back end, and showed off his coverage skills down in Mobile at the Senior Bowl.

That versatility will be welcomed on a Rams defense that is looking for a second outside corner opposite Jalen Ramsey, as well as help in the slot. The ability to use Burgess and second-year safety Taylor Rapp at the same time will be fun for new defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.
