Five moves the Cleveland Browns can still make this offseason
Trade for a young, Pro Bowl edge rusher.
As I stated earlier, the Cleveland Browns could use some more talent coming off the edge. There were quite a few viable depth options available in free agency that they could sign, but making a trade for a high-quality player could set the team up for years of success.
Myles Garrett is already one of the best defensive ends in football. He has lived up to his first overall selection in 2017, racking up 30.5 in just 37 games played. He is just scratching the surface of his potential, which should be a scary thought for quarterbacks and offensive coordinators around the league.
What could make Garrett even better? Another true star on the other side of the line. A guy that would force teams to balance on their pass protection, unable to double-team Garrett snap after snap allowing him to get after the quarterback even more effectively.
As I stated previously, I think Jadeveon Clowney would be a great option. Especially as a free agent that they could just sign without giving up anything but money. A guy like Yannick Ngakoue would likely cost some valuable draft capital but is such a high caliber player that he may be worth it.
Like Garrett, Ngakoue is still young and has been as productive as any pass rusher in the NFL since he entered the NFL as a third-round pick in 2016. Ngakoue has nearly averaged double-digit sack totals in his four seasons of play and is still just 25-years-old.
Things have gotten ugly between Ngakoue and the Jacksonville Jaguars, so his departure seems inevitable at this point. Even so, the cost would likely be at least a first-round pick. But to form a pair of dynamic pass rushers age 25 and under like Garrett and Ngakoue, I’d give up even more.
These two would arguably be the best defensive end duo in the entire NFL league and would be contributors for the Cleveland Browns for years and years to come. An effective pass rush is about as important as ever in today’s NFL and getting a young stud like Ngakoue would be the perfect pair for Garrett.
