Will rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa immediately start for the Miami Dolphins?

The Miami Dolphins made a significant investment in the quarterback position this offseason, taking Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Tagovailoa has an extensive injury history, but he is an incredibly talented quarterback prospect who could easily be the right guy to led this team into the future.

As soon as Tagovailoa landed in Miami, many expected him to sit for most of his rookie season. Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick played well for the Dolphins last season and could easily be considered the best quarterback to lead the team in 2020. On top of that, Tagovailoa is coming off of an ugly hip injury. Perhaps sitting back and healing while learning from Fitzpatrick from the bench would be best for the young quarterback?

However, there appears to be many around the league who believe that Tua will come in and immediately start for the Miami Dolphins. In his 10-point stance article for Bleacher Report earlier this week, Mike Freeman made it seem like Tagovailoa starting Week 1 was not only possible but perhaps likely.

Is Tua on track to start Week 1?

“According to every coach I’ve spoken to, it’s a forgone conclusion that (Tua) will beat out veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick and start Week 1,” Freeman wrote. “It’s difficult to put into words how high some coaches are on Tagovailoa. They think that when we look back at this draft, he will be one of the best, if not the best, players from it.”

“Tagovailoa’s adaptability and smarts fuel their optimism, as they think he’ll fit in any offensive system and will grow rapidly in the pros,” he continued. “His injury history is a legitimate concern, but these coaches believe in his ability to beat out Fitzpatrick and start right away.

I absolutely loved Tua Tagovailoa as a 2020 NFL Draft prospect and fully expect him to be a star for the Miami Dolphins at the next level. He proved many times in college to be one of the premier players in the country and was undoubtedly one of the best players in the class. His combination of on-field awareness, ball placement ability and overall accuracy to all fields is absolutely incredible and gives Tagovailoa a great chance to succeed as an NFL quarterback.

He has all of the physical tools needed to be a great quarterback at the next level and is a natural playmaker with the ball in his hands. This guy has it all and will have success as long as he can stay healthy. Durability is a major concern for Tagovailoa, but if he can stay on the field, the sky is the limit.

As long as he is fully recovered from his hip injury, I would like to see the Miami Dolphins let Tua Tagovailoa immediately come in as the starter in 2020. Fitzpatrick may legitimately be the best option for them to win right away, but Tua is undoubtedly the future of the franchise at the quarterback position and would benefit from getting on the field to learn the NFL game.

The Dolphins are unlikely to compete for the postseason in 2020 anyway, they may as well let their young quarterback get in there and start to grow.
