Season 3: Nik Scalzo, Quarterback, Kentucky

Of those to be on the show, Nik Scalzo is the only one yet to see the field at the collegiate level after an injury in fall camp forced him to redshirt in 2019. During the regional semifinal of his senior season of high school, Scalzo tore his ACL, but finished the game, earning his team a spot in the state championship, which they went on to win with him cheering from the sidelines.

Scalzo’s style of play has drawn comparisons to Johnny Manziel and Baker Mayfield as a miracle worker outside the pocket that can turn nothing into something. It was this ability on a trick play that resulted in his injury. However, once Scalzo can return to the field, he’ll be able to showcase his ability that was shown on the show.

Scalzo also has the IQ to become one of the better minds of the game. Being recruited by Harvard and Yale, he was quoted on the show saying “it isn’t a four-year plan, it’s a 40-year plan.” That 40-year plan for him is off to a solid start after being named SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll and Dean’s List.

Given his football mind and ability to make big plays, I would expect to see Scalzo on an NFL sideline in some capacity down the road. It might be through the NFL Draft or maybe as a coach, but with two senior quarterbacks on the roster in 2020, the starting job could open up for Scalzo to make an impact in the near future.
