2020 NFL Draft: First-Round re-draft with completely random draft order
A worthy offensive tackle would probably be ideal here for the Los Angeles Rams, but Cesar Ruiz is easily the best offensive lineman available and would fit well in their offense. Ruiz is an extremely smart player who has a tremendous combination of quickness and power on the inside. He can play center or guard and would undoubtedly be an immediate upgrade for the team on the interior.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers nailed their first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, landing offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs. Wirfs should be able to come in and give the Bucs an immediate upgrade at the right tackle position. Ideally, they would find another right tackle here, but any player would be a reach.
Instead, the Bucs secure the best running back in the class, bringing D’Andre Swift into the mix. Swift is an extremely quick and elusive player in the open field who also has big-time home run speed. He is a consistent playmaker as a runner and receiver and would have been a big-time addition to the Bucs offense.
The 49ers do an incredible job of scheming open their receivers and getting them into a position to create after the catch. Brandon Aiyuk is an absolutely perfect fit for this offense and I simply cannot mess that fit up. San Fran traded up to No. 25 to take Aiyuk in the 2020 NFL Draft and they snag him at No. 23 here. He is an extremely elusive and athletic player who is tremendous with the ball in his hands. Aiyuk is going to be a massive weapon in the 49ers’ offense.
Offensive tackle was the obvious number one need for the Cleveland Browns entering the 2020 NFL Draft and they filled it with the selection of Jedrick Wills in the first round. They would love to take an offensive tackle here, but Xavier McKinney is a much better value pick. McKinney is a smart, tough and athletic safety prospect who can play man and zone coverage, and also shine in-the-box. Wills was a nearly perfect pick for Cleveland, but McKinney is right for them in this range.
In this re-draft, the Los Angeles Chargers fall to No. 25. They took Justin Herbert at No. 6 in the actual draft and land themselves a different high-upside quarterback here at No. 25. Jordan Love is an incredibly gifted quarterback who has massive upside at the next level. He is not ready to compete on the big stage, but with some proper development, the sky is the limit.
Kristian Fulton falling to the Titans at the end of the second round was one of the best picks in the entire 2020 NFL Draft. Fulton is a quick and athletic cornerback prospect who shines in man coverage on the outside. He should have been a first-round pick and is an obvious choice for the Detroit Lions here. Obviously, their actual selection of Jeff Okudah was better, but Fulton makes sense for the team in this range.
I am not the biggest Austin Jackson fan, but you can not ignore his athleticism on the offensive line. Jackson moves extremely well up front and has a ton of upside as a pass protector. The Arizona Cardinals undoubtedly need some help up front and Jackson would have been a worthy choice if they had a pick in this range.
No Joe Burrow for the Cincinnati Bengals in this re-draft, but Patrick Queen certainly makes sense for this team in this range. Queen is a freak athlete at linebacker, which was an obvious need for Cincy entering the 2020 NFL Draft. Queen is going to be a star for the Baltimore Ravens’ defense for many years, but in this re-draft, he lands with their division rivals.
The Falcons and Jaguars swap cornerbacks in this re-draft, as A.J. Terrell lands in Duval at No. 29. Terrell is a sticky man-to-man corner who has tremendous natural athleticism and impressive ball skills. This re-draft does not go well for Jacksonville, but Terrell is undoubtedly a strong player who would fit well on the defense.
No baffling quarterback selection for the Green Bay Packers here. Instead, Green Bay goes out and gets Aaron Rodgers a much-needed target in the passing game. Mims has an impressive combination of size and speed on the outside and he would be a problem for opposing defenses in this Packers’ offense. Mims should have been the pick for Green Bay late in the first round.
Led by Jerry Jeudy, the Denver Broncos found many exciting offensive playmakers in the 2020 NFL Draft. With the players remaining on the board in this re-draft, Jalen Reagor undoubtedly makes the most sense for this team. Reagor is an extremely quick and elusive player who has legitimate deep speed and is a true playmaker with the ball in his hands. The Broncos wanted to find more weapons for quarterback Drew Lock and Reagor certainly would have made sense.
The Carolina Panthers draw the short stick in this re-draft and pick at No. 32. Carolina took edge rusher Yetur Gross-Matos in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and he certainly makes some sense for them here at 32. Gross-Matos is a bit of an underdeveloped talent, but his combination of length, power and quickness is impressive. Pairing him with Brian Burns on the outside certainly makes sense for Carolina and making the same pick here makes sense.
