Brandon Aiyuk gives 49ers the most dangerous RAC trio in the NFL
Brandon Aiyuk gives the 49ers the most dangerous RAC trio in the NFL.
The San Francisco 49ers have one of the most effective offenses in the entire NFL under Kyle Shanahan’s lead.
The emergence of George Kittle at the tight end position helped elevate the 49ers’ offense tremendously, but the addition of Deebo Samuel in the 2019 NFL Draft made the San Francisco passing game lethal.
Samuel, a second-round pick out of South Carolina, was one of the most effective rookies in the NFL last season with 57 receptions for 804 yards and three touchdowns, adding 159 rushing yards and three touchdowns as a runner.
Samuel proved in 2019 to be one of the most dangerous players in the NFL after the catch, which was bad news for opposing defenses since George Kittle led the NFL in yards after the catch per reception in 2018.
In 2019, Samuel was tied for second in the NFL in yards after the catch per reception at 8.5 while Kittle ranked fifth in the league at 7.5.
Enter YAC monster Brandon Aiyuk
Then, the 49ers used their second of two first-round picks on Arizona State wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, one of the best players in the incoming rookie class at creating in space after the catch.
According to Pro Football Focus, Aiyuk averaged a whopping 10.9 yards after the catch per reception in his final season at Arizona State.
The 49ers now have three players who are threats to bowl you over every time they touch the ball.
As crazy as it may sound, Aiyuk is the most dynamic athlete of them all with a 6-foot-8 wingspan, blazing speed, and a strong lower body.
What kind of advantage is this for the 49ers to have so many players who can create like this after the catch?
It allows Jimmy Garoppolo to make a ton of high percentage throws and his receivers to make him look good. Combine the 49ers’ trio of YAC monsters with a strong running game, and you have a recipe for even more success offensively in 2020 than the 49ers had a season ago when they ranked second in the NFL in scoring offense.
