D’Eriq King is far from a perfect prospect, but he has the talent to quickly rise up 2021 NFL Draft boards.
D’Eriq King had an exciting career at Houston, but will now look to take his talents to the next level of college football. As the starting quarterback at Miami under the direction of new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and his Air Raid offensive attack, King undoubtedly has a chance to take his game to the next level. He is undoubtedly a 2021 NFL Draft prospect to watch who undoubtedly has massive upside at the next level.
King is an incredibly quick and athletic quarterback who is an impressive playmaker with the ball in his hands. He is a quick decision-maker who sees his rushing path in an instant and has the combination of speed and elusiveness to take it to the house from anywhere on the field. Make no mistake about, King is an incredibly exciting rushing quarterback.
As impressive as King is as a runner, he has a lot of work to do as a passer. His footwork in the pocket is sloppy and it leads to less than ideal velocity on most of his passes. That being said, he does show some solid ball placement and accuracy to all levels of the field. It would be nice to see him be more consistently accurate, but the flashes are certainly there.
King also shows impressive pocket presence and a natural ability to escape from pressure. This guy knows how to use his athleticism at the quarterback position well and also does a great job of throwing on the run. King legitimately seems to have improved accuracy when he is on the run.
King undoubtedly has a chance to take his 2021 NFL Draft stock to the next level during the 2020 season. He landed in a great situation in Miami and has the talent to put up some absolutely massive numbers in that offense.
Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Trey Lance currently stand out as the top-tier quarterback prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft class, but a lot will undoubtedly change between now and next April. King has an exciting skill-set that fits the modern NFL extremely well. If he can improve his mechanics and become a more polished passer, the sky is the limit for him at the next level.
