5. Detroit Lions: Justyn Ross, Wide Receiver, Clemson

The Lions are another team in a make-or-break year and the 4-12 record I have them at won’t cut it. Matthew Stafford is reaching the end of his tenure in Detroit, but the Lions front office can work to prolong that time. Adding D’Andre Swift this year to the rush was a step in the right direction, but a small step at that.

In the 2021 NFL Draft, the Lions take the next step, a top tier weapon. Stafford’s best seasons came with Calvin Johnson. If Detroit wants to recreate that connection, Ross is the best profile fit, being 6-4. He may not be the best wide receiver in next year’s draft, but the class will be close enough that the Lions can take him without backlash.

The other top receivers of the class should receive consideration, but Ross’ size is what will set him apart and gain attention from the Lions.

This will also rely on who the next coach in Detroit is. A 4-12 season should spell the end of Matt Patricia’s time in Detroit, which could result in an offensive-minded coach which would be ideal for how the team is being built, a power run offense around Stafford.
