2021 NFL Draft: Washington Redskins get top pick in new mock draft
By Kyle Edmond
30. San Francisco 49ers: Jalen Mayfield, Offensive Line, Michigan
The 49ers will have to avoid the collapse that the Rams had when they went to the Super Bowl, but if they can, their roster is built for another run. On the surface, it seems like they immediately replaced what they lost with younger talent. We saw them do this at wide receiver in the draft and then again at left tackle via trade, but there’s always a chance that one of those doesn’t work out.
Regardless, I still see the 49ers returning to the NFC Championship game behind a 12-4 season, but just missing another Super Bowl appearance.
During the draft, we found out Joe Staley retired and San Francisco quickly made the move to add Trent Williams even before the Staley news broke, but the reality is that Williams hasn’t played in awhile. His last action game in the 2018 season and during his nine seasons, he’s only played in all 16 games twice, doing so in 2012 and 2013.
Now, he is a seven-time Pro Bowler, being selected each season from 2012-2018, but the health is still a concern, especially after taking a year off. Should Williams not work out, the 49ers could look to take Mayfield in the 2021 NFL Draft to eventually fill the role.
