2021 NFL Draft: Washington Redskins get top pick in new mock draft
By Kyle Edmond
12. Jacksonville Jaguars (via LAR): Patrick Surtain II, Cornerback, Alabama
With one of the picks from the Jalen Ramsey trade, the Jaguars can look to replace him. With their first pick they took a quarterback in Fields to help build the offense and create a core, and now the attention shifts to the defense and on building the secondary. When the Jaguars made their last run, it was built on a strong secondary and they can look to replicate in this rebuild.
This pick obviously comes from the Rams, who could be entering the Twilight Zone. They moved a lot of pieces to acquire players over the last few years but having now paid Jared Goff, they are in cap troubles that have required them to cut valuable assets. With that, they go 6-10, which turns the pick sent to Jacksonville into a top 12 pick.
Surtain has a few things going for him. One, playing at Alabama always helps draft stock. Two, he has the NFL in his bloodline. Taking C.J. Henderson this year, Surtain creates a dynamic duo in the secondary for the Jacksonville rebuild that will resemble what they had when they made a playoff push a few years ago. Henderson and Surtain could be this rebuild’s Ramsey and Bouye.
