2021 NFL Draft: Washington Redskins get top pick in new mock draft
By Kyle Edmond
10. New England Patriots: Jamie Newman, Quarterback, Georgia
I don’t buy the idea that Bill Belicheck is tanking, it isn’t possible for him. I’m sure he wants to have a player like Trevor Lawrence under center, but the price is too much for Belicheck. However, with either Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer under the center as of now, the Patriots get stuck in a rough spot. They won’t be good enough to contend, but Belichick won’t let them flop either.
In the struggle to win without a true quarterback, the Patriots limp to the finish line of the season. After a 5-11 season, they hold the 10th pick, which is too low to get a top quarterback prospect in Lawrence or Fields. They could move up, but that also doesn’t seem like a Belicheck thing to do here. Instead, they stay put and make it work.
Even with Lawrence and Fields off the board, New England still goes quarterback. If Jamie Newman can light it up for Georgia, then he could easily be a top 10 pick, but that’s a big “if” at this point.
All transfers have an uphill battle given the unique circumstances the upcoming season will present. However, if Newman can have a solid season, it will be that much more impressive to New England and all the other teams in the QB market.
