2020 NFL Draft: Tee Higgins is the best value pick for Bengals
Landing Tee Higgins was the best value pick for the Bengals in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Now that the 2020 NFL Draft has come and gone we look back and analyze which picks were the best fit for each team. The Cincinnati Bengals had a solid 2020 NFL Draft throughout but one pick stands out as the best value pick for the team.
Second-round pick Tee Higgins, a wide receiver from Clemson University stands out because I personally had him as a first-round talent. There were many wide receivers that were selected in round one of the 2020 NFL Draft and to my surprise, Higgins was not one of them. In fact, six wide receivers were taken before Higgins heard his name called in round two at 33rd overall.
Higgins left Clemson tied with Sammy Watkins and DeAndre Hopkins for the school touchdown record at 27. Both wide receivers were first-round picks, Hopkins was selected 27th overall in 2013 by the Houston Texans and Watkins was selected 4th overall the following year in 2014 by the Buffalo Bills.
Higgins had a first-round grade
Higgins was a first-round grade in my opinion, but with so many receiver options, teams sure had different opinions on who they thought would fit their team well. The top three receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft class were CeeDee Lamb, Henry Ruggs III, and Jerry Jeudy. Right after those three guys, I had Justin Jefferson and Tee Higgins in tier two.
Jalen Reagor and Brandon Aiyuk were selected in the latter portion of round one despite not being as polished as other receivers. I had Reagor as a middle of round two receiver before Philadelphia nabbed him at 21st overall. As for Aiyuk, I like the fit for the 49ers. He’s one of the fastest receivers of the entire draft class he just lacks the physicality to go up for the contested balls.
I believe Higgins will be a star wide receiver who can replace A.J. Green who is playing on the franchise tag in 2020. Higgins has the complete package for a wide receiver with size, physicality, hands, and speed to be that number one guy that teams look for from day one.
An important aspect is knowing how to win football games and not only was Tee Higgins a National Champion in 2018 but so is their rookie quarterback Joe Burrow who was taken with the first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Bengals were right to select Higgins and it should help their franchise in 2020 and beyond.
