A recent 2021 NFL Draft mock draft scenario has six quarterbacks going in the first round.

Nothing in football is more important than the quarterback position and the 2021 NFL Draft is loaded with talented signal-callers. Trevor Lawrence is one of the best quarterback prospects in recent memory, while guys like Justin Fields and Trey Lance has seemingly unlimited upside. These top three quarterbacks are all exciting, but this is also an extremely well-rounded and deep quarterback class with many potential first-round selections.

Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports recently put together a first-round 2021 NFL mock draft and his placement of quarterbacks immediately stands out. Fornelli had six quarterbacks go in the first round of this mock draft and their landing spots are listed below.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, Clemson (1st overall)
Carolina Panthers: Justin Fields, Ohio State (7th overall)
Detroit Lions: Trey Lance, North Dakota State (8th overall)
Indianapolis Colts: K.J. Costello, Stanford (14th overall)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Tanner Morgan, Minnesota (23rd overall)
Pittsburgh Steelers: Jamie Newman, Georgia (25th overall)

All six of these quarterbacks undoubtedly have a chance to go in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft and all of these teams listed could easily be looking to target the position. The Detroit Lions taking Trey Lance at No. 8 stood out as the most interesting fit.

Lance in Detroit works well

Lance is an incredibly talented quarterback prospect who has massive upside at the next level. He is a smart and accurate passer who has tremendous natural athleticism at the quarterback position.

As great as Lance is, he is unlikely to be ready to compete at a high level during the 2021 season. He will be a bit of a project player who needs some time to develop at the next level. Going to Detroit and sitting behind Matthew Stafford for a year or two would be an ideal scenario for Lance.

Tanner Morgan going 23rd to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers also stands out as a strong pick in this mock draft. Morgan is an extremely precise passer who can push the ball down the field with impressive arm strength. He anticipates throws extremely well and would be a perfect fit for the Bruce Arians offense. Morgan would be the perfect quarterback to sit behind Tom Brady for a year and then take over as the Bucs’ franchise quarterback in 2022.

Next. Way-too-early 2021 NFL mock draft. dark

We are all excited about Lawrence, Fields and Lance, but this mock draft shows that there is extremely depth at the quarterback position in the 2021 NFL Draft class. There are plenty of teams with long-term quarterback needs throughout the league and this upcoming draft class will present many opportunities for these teams to find their franchise signal-caller.
