2020 NFL Draft: The most improved rosters in the NFL this offseason
NFC North: Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears had a weird offseason, but similar to the AFC South, they are almost the most improved team in the division by default.
The Packers blew it this offseason by trading up for Jordan Love. Love is a fine prospect, but the Packers paid no mind to the intangible aspect of their team when they made that move. They got way worse as a result, in my opinion.
The Vikings lost the majority of their secondary and subsequently had to rebuild there. They were also forced into a trade of wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
The Detroit Lions were the Bears’ main contender here for most improved, but I think the Bears took bigger shots than Detroit did to get better.
New (projected) starters in 2020
- QB Nick Foles
- TE Cole Kmet
- TE Jimmy Graham
- WR Ted Ginn Jr.
- EDGE Robert Quinn
- CB Artie Burns
- CB Jaylon Johnson
The Bears were being held back last year by Mitch Trubisky, and they finally saw the light.
The move to trade for Nick Foles isn’t the most glamorous, but I think Foles’ experience can help the Bears tremendously this offseason.
They also made a weird move replacing Trey Burton with Jimmy Graham, who is certainly past his best years at this point but he does have some history with GM Ryan Pace and can help in the red zone.
The Bears didn’t have a first-round pick in this draft but they might have gotten the best tight end in the class (Cole Kmet) and they certainly got a first-round talent at cornerback in Jaylon Johnson.
Both of those players should join the starting lineup of a talented defense that got an underrated presence off the edge to go opposite Khalil Mack in Robert Quinn, who has only ever gotten after the QB in his NFL career.
These moves may seem marginal but the Bears could be the most improved team in the division and have undoubtedly gotten better at the QB position.
