NFC South: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Is there any question about which team is the most improved in the NFC South this year?

New Orleans Saints fans might have a bone to pick here, and they are still the ‘best’ team in the South as of right now, but the Buccaneers brought in Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, among others.

New (projected) starters in 2020

  • QB Tom Brady
  • TE Rob Gronkowski
  • OT Tristan Wirfs
  • S Antoine Winfield Jr.

Although the Bucs’ list of ‘new’ projected starters in 2020 is smaller than some of the other teams on this list, this team also invested a lot in keeping their own guys around.

They brought back defensive front seven players Ndamukong Suh, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Shaquil Barrett. They also — to this point — have not gotten rid of tight end OJ Howard despite the Gronkowski addition.

I loved the move the Bucs made in the NFL Draft to get Tristan Wirfs to come in and be an immediate starter at the right tackle position, and they had an underrated pickup in the third round with Vanderbilt running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn.

Brady raises all boats in Tampa Bay. He’s a living legend and even if he’s past his physical prime, he’s still able to lead this team to the playoffs mentally and physically he’s good enough.

Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are two of the best receivers Brady has ever had, especially when we’re talking about guys in their prime.

The addition of Antoine Winfield Jr. to a young secondary gives the Bucs another ballhawk on the back end who can help get the ball back into Brady’s hands.
