2020 NFL Draft: The most improved rosters in the NFL this offseason
AFC South: Indianapolis Colts
The AFC South might win the award as the ‘least improved’ division in the NFL.
The Jacksonville Jaguars may be better in the long run with all of the reloading they are doing lately, but will they be improved in 2020? Not likely, but there is a chance Gardner Minshew II can play at a higher level than people think he’s capable of.
The Houston Texans have been the laughing stock of the NFL this offseason.
The Tennessee Titans kept some key players, but will they be better than last season? Their roster certainly doesn’t appear much better, if at all.
The Indianapolis Colts almost win this award by default, but they also probably made the most substantial moves in the division in 2020.
New (projected) starters in 2020
- QB Philip Rivers
- RB Jonathan Taylor
- WR Michael Pittman Jr.
- TE Trey Burton
- DL DeForest Buckner
- CB Xavier Rhodes
The Colts reunited Philip Rivers with Nick Sirianni this offseason and brought the former Chargers quarterback to the midwest in hopes that he can get them back into playoff contention.
Is Rivers the guy for the job? It will be fascinating to see, but it’s fair to say he’s an upgrade over Jacoby Brissett for a season.
The Colts added Wisconsin star running back Jonathan Taylor to their already deep stable of backs including Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines, a move that sort of raises some eyebrows considering Taylor is a bell-cow type of back.
The additions of Michael Pittman Jr. and Trey Burton should help the passing game, especially Pittman, who could be a very underrated pickup for the Colts this season.
The biggest move the Colts made was trading their first-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for defensive lineman DeForest Buckner, a big-time threat as a pass rusher on the defensive line.
Buckner got himself a massive contract from the Colts and joins a defensive front that desperately needed a pass rush threat up front.
