2020 NFL Draft: The most improved rosters in the NFL this offseason
NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles already had one of the most talented rosters in the NFL in 2019, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say they are the most improved team in the NFC East by any means.
The Dallas Cowboys gained plenty this offseason, but they also lost a lot and have unproven players stepping in to try to replace the proven production they are losing.
The Washington Redskins could make a strong case here with the hiring of Ron Rivera and the drafting of Chase Young, but they still have a number of holes on their roster yet to address in a multi-year rebuild.
The New York Giants made improvements, but the current situation with Deandre Baker looms large for them and they are still unsettled at the linebacker position in my opinion.
The Eagles made substantial upgrades at their biggest positions of need this offseason.
New (projected) starters in 2020
- WR Jalen Reagor
- DL Javon Hargrave
- LB Davion Taylor
- CB Darius Slay
- CB Nickell Robey-Coleman
- S Will Parks
The key addition for this Eagles team in 2020 is cornerback Darius Slay. Slay is one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL, and despite the fact that the Lions did not have a lot of team success in 2019 (or the past few years in general), Slay has been doing his job exceptionally well.
Heading to the Eagles, Slay has a reputation to live up to with a lot brighter of a spotlight on him, but he’ll certainly be up to the task as a competitor.
The other addition that not enough people are talking about in Philadelphia is the pickup of defensive lineman Javon Hargrave from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hargrave stays in the state of Pennsylvania and joins an Eagles front that is fast, versatile, and very deep.
The Eagles will also be getting Malik Jackson back from injury this year, yet another key addition for this roster.
In the draft, the Eagles upgraded their offense substantially by drafting big-play receiver Jalen Reagor and another offensive weapon in Jalen Hurts in the first two rounds.
Reagor is going to be able to come in and stretch the field for Philadelphia, something their offense desperately needed in 2019.
In round three, the Eagles got a potential steal in Colorado linebacker Davion Taylor, one of the fastest players in the class at his position and someone who could develop into a starter quickly.
