AFC East: Miami Dolphins

It’s still crazy to think that a year ago, we were discussing the possibility if not probability that the Miami Dolphins were ‘adjusting’ their roster to actually tank for Tua Tagovailoa.

Although Tagovailoa wasn’t the number one pick and the Dolphins wound up winning more games than most people thought they would, the end result was what everyone and their dog predicted: The Dolphins got Tua Tagovailoa.

Not only that, but after the Dolphins purged their roster of so much talent, they used free agent dollars and a ton of high draft picks to substantially change their roster.

New (projected) starters for 2020

  • QB Tua Tagovailoa
  • RB Jordan Howard, Matt Breida
  • OT Austin Jackson
  • OG Ereck Flowers
  • C Ted Karras
  • OL Robert Hunt
  • EDGE Shaq Lawson
  • EDGE Kyle Van Noy
  • DL Raekwon Davis
  • DB Byron Jones
  • CB Noah Igbinoghene

I absolutely loved what the Dolphins did throughout the entire offseason. They managed to bring in the top free agent prize at the cornerback position with Byron Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, and the addition of Kyle Van Noy from New England will be a huge asset for Brian Flores’ defense.

The second-round selection of Raekwon Davis to go with Christian Wilkins on the interior defensive line is really fun, and the Dolphins took some calculated shots on former first-round picks like Shaq Lawson and Ereck Flowers, players whose career started slow but have picked up of late.

The key to all of this, however, is Tua Tagovailoa. If he’s healthy, the game is substantially changed for Miami. He’s an instant impact player and because of his injury history, I think a lot of people forgot about just how good he is.

The Buffalo Bills probably have the best all-around roster in the AFC East right now, but if Tua plays up to his potential as a rookie, I think the Dolphins will have the better record and potentially could go from worst to first in this division.
