Carolina Panthers’ projected win total: 7.0
Trey Lance 2019 stats: 66.9% completion percentage for 2,786 yards, 28 touchdowns and 0 interceptions through the air. 169 carries for 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

The Carolina Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year contract this offseason. Bridgewater will now take over as the starting quarterback in Carolina and they hope that he is the right guy to lead them into the future. However, if they are picking fifth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, Bridgewater only could have been so good. Quarterback could easily still be an option for this team.

In this mock draft, the Panthers take a chance on some big-time upside at the quarterback position. Trey Lance is never going to be able to consistently prove himself against top-tier competition, but he is an incredibly talented signal-caller who could be an absolute NFL superstar.

Lance has an incredible combination of arm strength and mobility that will always make him an exciting player on the field. He also shows impressive pocket presence and understands how to read the entire field. Lance is not the most consistently accurate quarterback, but he does flash brilliance in this area, especially on the deep ball.

While he will be a bit of a project player at the next level, Trey Lance is an incredibly exciting quarterback prospect who could easily end up being one of the top players in the 2021 NFL Draft class. In this mock draft scenario, the Panthers take Lance at No. 5 and allow him to sit behind Bridgewater for a year. After the 2021 season, Carolina moves forward with Lance as their starter and tries to trade Bridgewater and the one year remaining on his contract.
