2021 NFL Draft: Trey Lance lands in top five of way-too-early mock draft
Miami Dolphins’ projected win total: 7.4
Jevon Holland 2019 stats: 66 total tackles (4.5 for loss), 4 interceptions (1 for a touchdown) and 4 passes defended.
The Miami Dolphins find themselves in an interesting position at pick No. 9 of this mock draft. I strongly considered giving them an impact receiver to pair with DeVante Parker, but they have two first-round selections and this wide receiver group is extremely deep. They will likely be able to address that need later. The offensive line and edge rusher are also options for this team, but Oregon safety Jevon Holland stood out as the best pick for Miami at No. 9.
I really like Holland as a deep safety at the next level. He shows incredible range on the back-end, allowing him to handle single-high duties at the next level. Holland also shows strong overall ball skills and solid man-to-man coverage ability.
He does not offer much value in run support, but Holland is a willing tackler and will commonly bring down ball carriers in space. He is a solid last line of defense if the running back happens to get by the front seven. Holland is not really a versatile weapon who can do everything at the safety position, but he is an impressive coverage player who will make an impact against opposing passing attacks.
The Dolphins have put together an extremely talented secondary that could lead their defense for many years. However, they lack an impact player at the deep safety position and Holland could come in and immediately be that guy for them.
