Washington Redskins building strong WR group finding value in NFL Draft
For the last three years, the Washington Redskins have consistently found value at the wide receiver position in the NFL Draft. Put all of those picks together and they are starting to build an impressive group of pass-catchers.
The Washington Redskins selected wide receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. This selection largely went unnoticed throughout all of the excitement of draft weekend, but Gandy-Golden is an impressive outside receiver who has impressive upside at the next level.
He is a tremendous contested-catch receiver who attacks the ball in the air extremely well. Gandy-Golden is long, athletic and has a knack for making a catch no matter the situation. He is also just the latest in a long line of impressive value NFL Draft selections that the Washington Redskins have made at the position in the last few years.
In the 2018 NFL Draft, Washington took a seventh-round flyer on Trey Quinn out of SMU. Quinn has quickly become an interesting playmaker for the team out of the slot. While he is unlikely to ever put up huge numbers in the Redskins’ offense, he is a rock-solid and dependable target in the middle of the field. Not bad for a seventh-round pick.
The 2019 NFL Draft is where the Washington Redskins really made impressive additions at the wide receiver position. It began with the third-round selection of Terry McLaurin. McLaurin was an interesting NFL Draft prospect who showed plenty of upside, but he never was able to consistently produce at Ohio State. However, he came into the NFL and immediately proved that he belongs.
McLaurin was one of the best offensive rookies in the NFL last season, piling up 58 receptions for 919 yards and seven touchdowns. If he can follow up his impressive rookie season with a strong sophomore campaign, McLaurin will be well on his way to becoming a fantastic number one receiver for the Washington Redskins going forward.
As great as the McLaurin pick was, the Washington Redskins found even more wide receiver value later in the 2019 NFL Draft, as they found Kelvin Harmon in the sixth round. Harmon is another big, contested-catch receiver who has plenty of long-term upside. As a rookie, Harmon caught 30 passes for 365 yards. He is an impressive target on the outside who should be a solid contributor for the Washington Redskins for many years.

Between McLaurin, Harmon, Gandy-Golden and to a lesser extent, Quinn, the Washington Redskins have consistently found great value at the wide receiver position in the NFL Draft the last few seasons.
If McLaurin can continue to grow into a true number one option for this team, they may already have the pieces in place for a strong receiving corps. The best part is that they did not have to spend any premium draft capital or spend any big money to build this impressive group.
