Jacksonville Jaguars: K’Lavon Chaisson, EDGE, LSU

Round 1, 20th Overall

The Jacksonville Jaguars had two first-round selections in the 2020 NFL Draft and they found talented defensive prospects with both of those picks. At No. 9 overall, the Jaguars added cornerback C.J. Henderson to the mix. Henderson is an extremely athletic cornerback prospect who is smooth and sticky in coverage. He is going to be an impact player at the next level.

The Henderson pick was solid, but I liked the selection of edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson at No. 20 even better. Chaisson is extremely quick off of the ball and explosive around the edge. He has long arms and he knows how to use them well as a pass rusher.

While Chaisson is known primarily as a speed rusher who attacks the quarterback on the outside, do not sleep on his ability to defend the run. Chaisson is powerful at the point of attack and has a nose for the ball. He sets the edge extremely well and can knife through and make plays in the backfield at times. Chaisson has massive upside in the pass-rush department, but he will be a solid run defender at the next level as well.

Pairing Chaisson with Josh Allen gives the Jaguars an exciting combination of edge rushers to build their defense around. This team has a long way to go before they are legitimately competitive again, but if they keep adding guys like Chaisson to the mix, they will be good again before we know it.
