NFL Draft 2020: Best pick made by each AFC East team
New England Patriots: Josh Uche, EDGE, Michigan
Round 2, 60th Overall
I like the way the New England Patriots got back to their roots in the 2020 NFL Draft. They traded out of the first round but attacked Day 2 aggressively with five total selections and three picks made after a trade up. They were able to find versatile and athletic players on both sides of the ball on Day 2 and impressive talent throughout the entire 2020 NFL Draft.
Out of all of their picks, edge rusher Josh Uche stood out as my favorite. The Patriots traded back into the second round to select Uche at No. 60 overall and I am excited to see how they use him on the defensive side of the ball.
Uche is incredibly quick off of the ball and bends around the edge with ease. He shows impressive upfield burst as a pass rusher and closes on the quarterback extremely quickly.
While his pass-rush ability is the most exciting part of his game, Uche also shows a ton of upside in coverage. He is quick in the open field, changes directions well and attacks the ball in the air well. He is strong in short zone coverage and can even handle some man-to-man responsibilities.
While Uche does not bring much to the table as a run defender, his ability to make an impact against the pass in a variety of ways will be incredibly valuable in New England. Uche has impressive edge/linebacker versatility and Bill Belichick is the perfect coach to get the most out of him.
