NFL Draft 2020: Best pick made by each AFC East team

Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama

Round 1, 5th Overall

The Miami Dolphins had a ton of 2020 NFL Draft capital, but it was their first pick that stood above the rest. Taking Justin Herbert or an offensive tackle at No. 5 would have made a major mistake because Tua Tagovailoa was clearly the best player on the board and he gives Miami some hope for the future.

Tua is an incredibly talented quarterback prospect who has massive upside at the next level. He is calm and elusive in the pocket and sees the entire field extremely well. Tagovailoa also shows impressive overall mobility and enough arm talent to make any throw on the field.

Most importantly, Tua has incredible accuracy to all levels of the field. He places the ball on a dime at all times and shows the ability to put the proper touch on his passes. Simply put, he is an incredibly precise and accurate passer who should quickly adapt to the next level.

The only real knock on Tua is durability. He struggled to stay healthy in college and suffered an ugly hip injury that ended his 2019 season. While Tagovailoa appears to have healed well from the hip injury, there are legitimate concerns whether he can stay healthy on a consistent basis at the next level. The Dolphins simply must work to protect Tagovailoa as much as possible going forward because the injuries are the only downside to his game.

If Tua can stay healthy, he undoubtedly has the ability to become one of the best quarterbacks in the entire NFL. Make no mistake about it, the Dolphins absolutely nailed this pick, finding that franchise quarterback who they have been waiting for.
