Ranking the five best value picks in the 2020 NFL Draft
5. Josh Jones, OT, Arizona Cardinals
Round 3, Pick 72
Josh Jones was talked about as a potential first-round pick throughout most of the 2020 NFL Draft process. He had a strong final season at Houston and was awfully impressive at the Senior Bowl against some of the best competition in the country. However, when push came to shove, Jones still fell down the board before getting scooped up by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round.
The Cardinals were talked about as an obvious landing spot for one of the premier offensive tackles in the 2020 NFL Draft and many expected them to grab one at No. 8. However, instead of taking someone like Jedrick Wills Jr. or Tristan Wirfs, the Cardinals went with defensive superstar Isaiah Simmons. Without a second-round selection, the Cardinals had to wait until the third round to find their solution at offensive tackle. Jones falling into their laps was an ideal situation.
Jones has tremendous natural athleticism at the offensive tackle position, mirroring opposing edge rushers well in pass protection and getting out and blocking in space at an extremely high level. Jones also shows plenty of power at the point of attack, showing the ability to consistently down block and drive defenders completely out of the play.
Jones is a bit raw in his pass sets and footwork, but his combination of power and athleticism at the position is special. He is certainly a bit of a project, but Jones undoubtedly should have been off of the board well before this pick.
