2020 NFL Draft: Grading each Miami Dolphins draft selection
The offensive line rebuild started early for the Miami Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft, and for good reason. It’s going to be about protecting Tua Tagovailoa when he eventually takes the reigns as the starter, and Miami has nowhere near the offensive line they need. It would have been good to see the Dolphins move up while Tristan Wirfs kept falling, as he was the last of the top four available. But, Miami decided to stay put and select USC tackle Austin Jackson.
Jackson has a lot of tools, including good footwork in his pass sets and ample mobility. However, he lacks some refinement with his hands, struggles to drop anchor, and had issues against technically refined rushers in 2019. It’s something the Dolphins had to do, but the value wasn’t very good.
Grade: C+
The Dolphins traded back with the Packers at the end of round one in what will probably be known as the Jordan Love trade for some time. Many expected Miami to go safety or running back after the move back, so it was surprising to see them select corner Noah Igbinoghene.
Igbinoghene has only played a couple of seasons at corner, and his growth and development have been stellar so far. He’s very physical in the press and at the catch point and has the athleticism to refine his change of direction skill and technique in man coverage. Igbinoghene uses the sideline to his advantage well and has the elite deep speed to stay with receivers deep down the field.
He may not start right away in the secondary, but Igbinoghene brings immediate value in the return game with potential that is through the roof. Add strength to a strength.
