Grading each Miami Dolphins selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. How did Chris Grier and Brian Flores do?

The Miami Dolphins entered the 2020 offseason as a team ready for a big rebuild. They made moves in free agency, signing Byron Jones to a major deal, and brought in some help on defense in Shaq Lawson, Emmanuel Ogbah, and Kyle Van Noy.

Miami entered the 2020 NFL Draft with clear needs at quarterback, offensive line, running back, defensive line, and the back end at safety. They came in with 14 total selections, along with six in the top 70, which was more than enough to fill some holes and bring in enough talent for a turnaround. The Dolphins turned one of those picks into Matt Breida, shipping off a fifth-round pick to San Francisco for the explosive running back. They wheeled and dealt around on day three, and finished their draft with 10 selections.

Let’s take a look at each pick and grade it to finish off this awesome 2020 draft cycle.

Pick Analysis. Quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa. 5. player. 59. Scouting Report. Alabama

First, off well done by the Miami Dolphins and their front office. They steered everyone in different directions in the two weeks before the draft, claiming they liked Justin Herbert just fine at five and considered moving up ahead of the Giants for a tackle.

Ultimately, they got the quarterback they’ve been coveting for a long time, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tagoaviloa has the accuracy to all levels of the field and does a great job reading the defense before the snap. He can make plays under pressure and has continued to improve maneuvering the pocket. Injuries obviously make his projection difficult, but the Dolphins are getting one of the two premier quarterbacks in the class and that’s the way to start out a draft to rebuild.
