2020 NFL Draft: Post-Draft Grades for the Chicago Bears
Ever since he declared for the 2020 NFL Draft, Cole Kmet was largely seen as the top tight end in a weaker tight end class. Kmet showed consistent hands, physicality in addition to showing the versatility that NFL teams desire. As such, the Chicago Bears took Kmet with their first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to be their tight end of the future.
He’ll likely stick behind Graham for the first year until his contract runs out. And while taking a tight end early may have given some Chicago Bears some pause, Kmet is a different animal then what they are used to. Kmet’s presence in town could leave players such as Adam Shaheen and Jesper Horstead looking elsewhere for employment.
Final Grade: B+
After releasing Amukamara this offseason, the Chicago Bears were searching for a number two corner opposite Kendall Fuller. In free agency, they added former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick, Artie Burns, to their roster. But signing Burns didn’t stop General Manager Ryan Pace from selecting a corner early in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Jaylon Johnson, who saw his share of round one talk this offseason, fell to the Chicago Bears to at pick 50. Johnson is a good-sized corner, displaying the length necessary to thrive in press coverage situations. If he cleans up his transitions, then Johnson has a chance to beat out Burns for that starting job.
