player. Scouting Report. QB. Mississippi State. Tommy Stevens. 240. 15. Pick Analysis

The trade: Saints trade a 2021 6th round pick to the Texans for No. 240

Saint fans thought they were finished after the Trautman pick, but not so fast my friends. Here comes Tommy Stevens from Mississippi State to be the new backup QB?

Well, now it looks as if Jameis Winson is coming to New Orleans (which I think is a fantastic move for both sides). So then Tommy Stevens will be the new Taysom Hill? The initial thought was that Stevens was replacing Hill, but the following day, Hill extended his contract to the 2021 season.

So what’s the deal with Stevens? What is the Saints plan for the big man from Mississippi State? It looks as if they want another Taysom Hill style player. Stevens played this kind of role when he backed up Trace McSorley at Penn State. In 2017, he finished with three passing touchdowns, four rushing touchdowns, and two receiving touchdowns. He was a jack of all trades able to line up at QB, H-back, wide receiver, and tight end.

I like the move, and trading back into the seventh round shows they want him to play some sort of role in their offense. The Saints offense has always been a creative unit, and now they have two big guys who can throw, run, and catch. This should make an already elite offensive unit even more dynamic.
