Adam Trautman. 105. player. 15. Scouting Report. TE. Dayton. Pick Analysis

The trade: Saints trade picks No. 130, 169, 203, and 241 to the Vikings for  pick No. 105

This was a pretty sizable trade as the Saints decided to sacrifice the rest of their draft capital (at the time), to move up 25 picks and grab the big tight end from Dayton.

Trautman is a talented pass-catcher who put up really solid production during his senior year with the Flyers. 70 receptions for 916 yards and 14 touchdowns is elite production from the tight end position. He will have to deal with a step up in competition jumping from the FCS to the NFL.

I suggested in my trade-up targets article, that the Saints should have traded up in the second round for Cole Kmet. I believe Kmet is a better all-around player than Trautman. But the Saints should still be happy with leaving the draft with one of the better receiving tight ends in this class.

The question to ask is, was Trautman worth giving up 4 mid to late-round prospects? I think Trautman is solid, but there are some issues that need to be cleaned up such as blocking and dealing with press coverage. It seems like a bit of a risk for a guy who isn’t going to come in and immediately take Jared Cook’s job. Solid pick just not worth all the draft capital in my eyes.

Grade: C+
