2020 NFL Draft: Los Angeles Rams post-draft grades
Going in the 2020 NFL Draft, many expected the Los Angeles Rams to target help at inside linebacker early. Unfortunately, they chose to put the need off until the seventh-round, when they drafted Clay Johnston out of Baylor with the 234th overall pick.
Coming off of a torn ACL last October, Johnston was a productive player with the Bears and plays with the type of see-ball, get-ball mentality that you want from a middle linebacker prospect. Although he doesn’t possess the length or elite athleticism that the Rams like in the middle, he should contribute immediately on special teams.
While he is a nice high-motor player to add to the locker room, the addition of Johnston certainly doesn’t fix the hole they have at the position.

With the Los Angeles Rams first additional pick from the fourth-round trade with the Texans, they decided to address their need for a new kicker by taking Sam Sloman out of Sean McVay’s alma mater, Miami University (OH).
Sloman made 49 of his 62 field-goal attempts and 112 of 115 extra points in his career with the RedHawks and will be expected to fill the vacant role left by Greg Zuerlein leaving in free agency.
While I understand making sure you get the guy you want, I don’t love using draft capital on kickers. Likely could have gotten him as a UDFA.

To conclude things for the Los Angeles Rams, they added a little depth to the interior of their offensive line with the selection of Tremayne Anchrum.
Anchrum started at right tackle for the Clemson Tigers for the last two seasons, helping the team to two straight national championship appearances. While he doesn’t have the length to handle duties as a bookend in the NFL, he has enough strength and creates plenty of push in the run game to make him a nice depth option at guard.
While he could use some NFL coaching to refine some of his technique, he does have the necessary tools to develop in time.
