Round 3, Pick 90

A-. . EDGE. Florida. JONATHAN GREENARD

The Texans immediately go back to their need for an improved pass rush in the third round, snagging Jonathan Greenard, an intriguing edge rusher out of Florida. Greenard transferred to Florida after a solid career at Louisville and had the best year of his college career with the Gators in 2019.

Last season, Greenard piled up 16 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. He also has four passes defended, three forced fumbles, an interception and a fumble that he returned 80 yards for a touchdown. Simply put, he was a consistent presence on the edge for the Gators has a chance to make the same kind of impact at the next level.

Greenard is quick off of the ball and explosive around the edge. He is a gifted pass rusher who shows the ability to win with a variety of moves. Greenard can win with pure speed around the edge, but also shows strong overall hand usage and enough power to win with a bull rush at times. To put it simply, he is a talented pass rusher who has a ton of upside at an important position of need for the Houston Texans. A strong pick for the team here.

Round 4, Pick 126

C. . OT. North Carolina. CHARLIE HECK

While the offensive line is a position of need for this team, I just do not see the value of selecting Charlie Heck in this range. Heck is a big, long and relatively athletic offensive tackle prospect, but he lacks ideal functional power and may struggle with elite speed rushers at the next level. Heck just feels like a solid swing tackle at best and while that can provide value, there were simply better players on the board at the time.

If the Houston Texans wanted to take care of their offensive line with this pick, there would have been better value in an interior player. Someone like Cameron Clark, Ben Bredeson or Shane Lemieux would have made a ton of sense for this team and could have legitimately competed for their starting right guard spot as a rookie. Instead, they took a decent depth tackle.
