Los Angeles Chargers: 2020 NFL Draft Grades and Analysis
This was Telesco’s best pick of the 2020 NFL Draft based on value and need.
Many pundits had K. J. Hill as a fourth-rounder and it was shocking to see him still on the board in the seventh round. Telesco redeemed himself for his reach on his last pick with his steal of Hill in this round.
While Reed was selected first, he was never truly going to be the third guy on the depth chart. Hill will thrive in that role, feasting on slot corners with his detailed routes and his sticky hands. There is a good reason that Hill is the all-time receptions leader at Ohio State.
Hill does not possess elite speed and once the ball is in his hand he will never be a huge YAC receiver in the league. The Chargers won’t ask him to be though. He will be short-yardage chain-mover, not too different from the role of Cole Beasley on the Buffalo Bills.
Between Keenan Allen and K. J. Hill’s excellent route running, Mike Williams’ unique blend of size and agility and Reed’s natural speed, the Los Angeles Chargers could have one of the hardest receiving corps to defend in the NFL.
