Overall Grade: A-

The Carolina Panthers managed to get solid value on all three days of the 2020 NFL Draft. There were some steals on day two along with understandable selections on day three.

The first round was a throwaway grade because everyone already knew how good Derrick Brown is. There’s little to no risk of him not panning out, but I part of me would’ve like to see Simmons land in Carolina.

However, in the second round Carolina got not one, but two steals in Penn State defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos and Southern Illinois defensive back Jeremy Chinn. Both were fantastic values which resulted in me giving the Panthers the highest grade possible. Not to mention what the Carolina Panthers had to give up to land Chinn which was not much.

So, they basically traded Kyle Allen and a third-rounder for Jeremy Chinn, which we won’t know for sure, but it’s a safe bet to call this one a steal. Gross-Matos was a first-round talent and the Carolina Panthers were able to land him by staying exactly where they were at 38.

As for the day three picks, they all have the potential to one day contribute on defense, some more than others. Pride Jr. may need to fill in rather quickly due to the lack of depth at corner, but I think he will be up to the challenge.

The Carolina Panthers set a goal for the 2020 NFL Draft to beef up their defense and they certainly did that. They used all seven of their selections on defensive players that can either play right away or maybe one day down the road become important role players.
