Philadelphia Eagles 2020 NFL Draft: Final Grades, Analysis and Context
By John Newman
Grade: B+
This will now be the third wide receiver added during the 2020 NFL Draft. Last season really did a number on this front office, psychologically speaking. Knowing the Philadelphia Eagles game plan is built on a strong offensive showing and taking advantage of Wentz’s big arm, it isn’t exactly surprising they added multiple wide receivers this year.
Quez Watkins is ANOTHER speedy receiver who can get vertical in a hurry. The level of competition played in college is concerning and he has mechanical issues that have to be worked out. But he can gain decent separation across the field and can make jump balls at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds.
Considering the lack of vertical receiving threats by the end of the 2019 season, Watkins would have been a hero if he was on the roster then. Wentz has that big arm that makes vertical passes seem easy.
A player like Watkins, if developed right, could take advantage of that big arm. While not ready to be a starting wide receiver, it is good to see the Philadelphia Eagles have options in 2020. In case certain receivers don’t work out or get injured. His upside is worth more than a sixth-rounder.
