Stanford. Casey Toohill. 233. 871. Pick Analysis. Defensive End. player. Scouting Report

Grade: B

With their last pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select Casey Toohill out of Stanford. This defensive end is definitely a developmental pick, as he has the tools to be an effective pass-rusher but hasn’t quite worked on the nuances of the position enough to be a starter.

At 6-foot-4, 250-pounds, Toohill has the size to be an NFL player. A little small perhaps for the defensive line, it is possible Toohill could develop into a linebacker. He shows a ton of speed off the snap, but his pass-rushing technique is below average and needs development.

With only one full season starting, it is unclear what kind of edge rusher Roseman has brought to the defensive unit in Philadelphia. But he is fast, has athletic traits, and looks to need a season or two of successful development to be a starting quality defensive end. He might not be ready to start in Week One, but he has enough speed off the edge to get drafted.

By the seventh round, most teams are drafting developmental players that have unique circumstances anyway. No one expects a seventh-rounder to be a starter in their rookie season. With both starting defensive end positions on the roster near the end of their contracts, having options to mitigate their possible exits always helps.
