2020 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers post-draft grades
Finally, six rounds into the 2020 NFL Draft and the Green Bay Packers finally select a player that makes sense with Michigan guard, Jon Runyan. Runyan has NFL bloodlines and was a solid part of one of the better offensive lines in all of college football. A two-time All-Big Ten honoree, Runyan is an athletic player with a lot of experience at a major program.
While he spent the majority of his career with the Wolverines playing left tackle, Runyan will likely kick inside to play guard and could fill the role of the swing tackle if need be.
Grade: B
After nabbing Runyan with their first pick in the sixth round, the Green Bay Packers keep their sights set on bolstering the interior of their offensive line by selecting former Oregon center, Jake Hanson with the 208th overall pick.
Hanson started an eye-popping 49 games at center for the Ducks over the course of his career and was pretty consistent as a pass blocker throughout. He doesn’t check the boxes when it comes to athletic traits but can survive off of his smarts to win a job as a backup.
Grade: B-
The Green Bay Packers clearly put an emphasis on adding competition to their interior in the later rounds, as they took Indiana guard Simon Stepaniak with their 209th pick. He makes three straight picks on the inside of that o-line and while I gave favorable grades to the two previous picks, this one I don’t like as much.
He is stout against the run but can get sloppy with his hands, allowing too many pressures in the process. These late draft picks are the perfect opportunity to take a risk but this is nothing more than a safe depth pick.
