2020 NFL Draft: Buffalo Bills post-draft grades and analysis
By Tyler Kirk
The Buffalo Bills selected Kicker Tyler Bass from Georgia Southern in the sixth round, which I think this was a bit of a reach. There were still some great options available when the Bills selected Bass, but hey, he was the second kicker selected.
With the selection of Bass, the Bills have officially let it be known there is a kicking competition in Buffalo. Stephen Hauschka struggled with field goals ranging longer than 50-yards last year so I understand why the Bills made this choice. In my opinion just one round too early.
The thing Bass does a great job of is kicking field goals longer than 50 yards. He has a big leg and is very accurate from long range. He also did a great job at the Senior Bowl going 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts. I think that this pick gives the Bills a chance to have a young leg in camp and give competition to the position.
Final Grade: C
If we flip-flopped the pick of Tyler Bass and Isaiah Hodgins both picks would have got a B grade or better. With their second selection in the sixth round, the Buffalo Bills selected Isaiah Hodgins, wide receiver from Oregon State.
I love this pick for the Buffalo Bills. I think that Hodgins really can play. In my article I wrote earlier about late-round sleepers the Buffalo Bills could target, I had Hodgins as a name they could consider.
Hodgins is a big receiver at six-foot-three, 201 pounds. Hodgins has arguably the best hands in this draft class. When a ball is near him or around him, he is catching the football. He has glue for hands. Hodgins does a great job with body control in the air and made a ton of spectacular catches at Oregon State.
If Hodgins can gain some strength in the offseason I can see him really competing for some playing time.
