The New York Jets ended the 2020 NFL Draft fall of Denzel Mims, who will provide Sam Darnold with a nice vertical threat as a rookie.

The New York Jets started off their 2020 NFL Draft class the way pretty much everyone thought they would.

With the 11th overall pick, the Jets selected offensive tackle Mekhi Becton, though no one necessarily thought they would be picky there. It was an offensive tackle over anything kind of situation for the Jets.

But beyond that, the Jets had a clear and present need at the wide receiver position. With Robby Anderson moving on to the Panthers and only Breshad Perriman coming in through free agency, the Jets had to hope the depth of this year’s receiver class would work in their favor.

It definitely did.

The Jets ended the unfortunate but fortuitous draft fall of Baylor’s Denzel Mims, one of the most intriguing athletes at his position in this class.

Mims, a 6-foot-3 receiver, ran a blazing 4.38 in the 40-yard dash and caught 28 touchdown passes in the last three years at Baylor.

With a huge catch radius, big-time long speed, and a knack for making difficult catches look easy, Mims could not have been more a gift for the wide receiver-needy Jets in the second round.

So, with their top two selections, the Jets address their top two needs on offense and finally put some necessary pieces around Sam Darnold.

The Jets are kind of an example of what trading a king’s ransom of picks can do to hurt the development of your young quarterback, but they have finally regrouped and now as Darnold is entering year three, he has a chance to take a big jump forward with some substantial moves on the offensive line in free agency and now these top two picks.
